BACKGROUND: The Albemarle County Historic Preservation Plan was adopted in September 2000. In April 2001 the Board of Supervisors (BOS) adopted the "Priority Recommendations for Historic Preservation in Albemarle County" (see Attachment A) as the action agenda to be used for Plan implementation. The Historic Preservation Committee (HPC) held its first meeting on January 8, 2002.
STRATEGIC PLAN: Rural Area Character: Preserve the character of rural life with thriving farms and forests, traditional crossroad communities, and protected scenic areas, historic sites, and biodiversity
DISCUSSION: The HPC made progress on several of the Priority Recommendations between 2015 and 2018. Committee efforts focused on education programs, completing the development of a database of County historic properties, and documenting historic properties prior to demolition whenever possible. Attachment A summarizes the Committee's accomplishments as they relate to the Priority Recommendations. Attachment B provides additional details and data on projects and programs. Attachment C highlights the Committee's significant achievements.
BUDGET IMPACT: This is a committee status report. As such, it has no budget impact.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Board of Supervisors accept the Historic Preservation Committee's report.
