BACKGROUND: The Board directed staff to undertake a corridor study and planning process for Rio Road from east the Small Area Plan area (east of Putt Putt Place) to the City Limits at Melbourne Road. A consultant, Line+Grade Civil Engineering, has been contracted to undertake this project. The project work is being done in two phases. Phase I consists of the section of road from east of Route 29/Putt Putt Place to just south of the John Warner Parkway/Rio Road intersection. Phase II covers the remainder of Rio Road to Melbourne Road. While work is underway on Phase II, the focus of the consultant's work to date has been on Phase I.

The consultant has completed the background assessment of Phase I of the Corridor and developed draft concepts for improvements. The concepts have been presented to the public for feedback through three approaches: through use of the project website; three (3) pop-up meeting locations along the corridor (the Center, CATEC, and at Putt Putt); and a public meeting held with the Places29-Rio Community Advisory Committee.

STRATEGIC PLAN: Infrastructure Investment - Prioritize, plan, and invest in critical infrastructure that responds to past and future changes and improves the capacity to serve community needs.

DISCUSSION: At this work session, the consultant and project team will:

- Present an overview of the draft concepts;
- Provide summary of comments received from the public to date;
- Advise on the next steps in the plan development process.
