BACKGROUND: On September 18, 2019, staff presented a Resolution to establish a community-wide greenhouse gas emissions reduction target for consideration by the Board (See Attachment A for September 18 executive summary). During that meeting, many members of the public spoke in favor of the target, and the Board directed staff to submit the Resolution for its consideration and approval at a future meeting.
STRATEGIC PLAN: Natural Resources Stewardship: Thoughtfully protect and manage Albemarle County’s ecosystems and natural resources in both the rural and development areas to safeguard the quality of life of current and future generations
DISCUSSION: The Resolution is presented for the Board’s consideration and approval.
BUDGET IMPACT: Budget requests associated with the final Climate Action Plan will proceed through regular Operating and Capital budgeting processes.

Staff recommends that the Board adopt the attached Resolution to Establish a Community-wide Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Target (Attachment B).
