BACKGROUND: In November 2015, the Board chartered the Pantops Public Safety Station Stakeholders Work Group to "provide suggestions and guidance for establishing positive, productive partnerships that will maximize the positive impact of the station, give guidance on effective volunteer recruitment and retention strategies, and give guidance on the best ways to reach out to and engage the general Pantops community." In September 2016, the Board received the Work Group's interim report and expressed support for its recommendations (Attachment A).

STRATEGIC PLAN: Goal 2. Critical Infrastructure. Prioritize, plan and invest in critical infrastructure that responds to past and future changes and improves the capacity to serve community needs.

DISCUSSION: The Pantops Public Safety Station Stakeholders Work Group has spent the intervening months preparing an implementation plan to accompany their report that identifies resources, responsibilities, and a schedule for implementing the tasks to support volunteer recruitment and retention and productive partnerships (Attachment B). During this process, the Work Group has expressed a desire to evolve from a planning group to an implementation group in order to support the successful implementation of recommendations as the station enters a critical phase - volunteer recruitment in advance of the opening.
