BACKGROUND: Each year, the Board considers and approves a set of legislative priorities to pursue in the upcoming General Assembly session. The Board then meets with the County's local delegation from the General Assembly to discuss these priorities and submits them to the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC), the Virginia Association of Counties (VACo), and the Virginia Municipal League (VML). This will be the first of three anticipated Board discussions to develop priorities for the 2025 General Assembly session.
STRATEGIC PLAN: Mission - To enhance the well-being and quality of life for all community members through the provision of the highest level of public service consistent with the prudent use of public funds.
DISCUSSION: Staff will review the disposition of the County's legislative priorities for the 2024 General Assembly session, found in Attachment A. Staff will also recommend an approach to the 2025 General Assembly session, including development of priorities-with some possible priorities to be identified-and reliance on the Legislative Positions and Policy Statements, also adopted annually by the Board. Last year's Legislative Positions and Policy Statements are attached as Attachment B.
BUDGET IMPACT: There are no specific, identifiable budget impacts.

Staff recommend that the Board receive the presentation, discuss the recommended approach, and provide direction to staff in preparation for the 2025 legislative session.
